A cave in Romania, the only place to be preserved on earth in case of nuclear attack
Did you know that NASA researchers have decided that Movile cave in Dobrogea (southeastern Romania) is the only place on earth that would be saved in case life ceases on our planet due to a major disaster or nuclear attack?
And this is because it is the only place in the world where life is not based on carbon complex, but on sulpho-compounds. But, however, it has a capital bug, as it cannot shelter any human being due to its toxic environment.
Discovered by a Romanian geologist in 1986, the cave is somewhere near Mangalia (on the sea shore) and lies on 300 meters. Comprising several low galleries of 1-2 meters, the unusual cave shelters 200 species adapted to live in an oxygen-free environment, within a 200-300 million-year-old ecosystem.
The cave is currently in conservation, is covered with a concrete plate and the access is forbidden due to its toxic environment. Only researchers are allowed.
